This is a great tour for history lovers. One can experience Greek, Roman and Selcuk cultures in one trip.
Day 1: Take an early morning flight from Istanbul to Izmir where you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to Selcuk for the first day of the tour. First, drive to the ancient city of Ephesus to visit one of the 12 cities of Ionia, and a major departure point for trade routes into Asia Minor. Ephesus is renowned for its sacred ancient shrines, including a famous temple (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World). At Ephesus you will see the beautiful Celsus Library, built in the beginning of the 2nd century A.D. You'll also visit the Grand Theater, one of the most impressive buildings in Ephesus, where St. Paul once preached. Afterward, visit the Temple of Hadrian across the way. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. After lunch, stop by the nearby Basilica of St. John, and then visit the Ephesus Archeological Museum, which contains two wonderful marble statues of Artemis and 25,000 items found in the ancient city. Then we will continue to visit the House of the Virgin Mary on the Aladag Mountains, five miles from Ephesus. On July 26, 1967, Pope Paul VI visited this place and prayed here. Overnight in Kusadasi. Day 2: After breakfast, depart hotel for Aphrodisias, the city dedicated to the goddess of love and home to a school of sculpture. Explore its many Greco-Roman remains including a stadium and the Temple of Aphrodite. You will also enjoy the nearby Roman theater and necropolis. Next continue to Pamukkale. Popularly known as the cotton castle because of its immense tiers of white limestone cascading down the barren hillside Pamukkale is also home to a number of hot springs. You will also visit ancient city of Hierapolis and its ancient cemetery The Necropolis. Optional: For those who want to swim in an ancient indigenous Roman Pool with a very special ambience, there will be some extra time. Drive back to Kusadasi for overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 3: After breakfast, transfer to Izmir to catch a flight back to Istanbul. On the way, stop by Sardis, the capital city of Lydians, one of the seven churches of revelation and one of the first synagogues of Turkey. (B)
